This year, consider focusing on thoughtful, clutter-free gifts that create meaningful experiences rather than accumulating more things. From mindful gifts to experiences, these clutter-free anniversary gifts help celebrate your special day in a way that’s both memorable and unique. 1. Experiences

I love giving experiences as gifts! It's fun to pick out something that I know will create a long-lasting memory. You can gift these as tickets that you have purchased or a gift certificate, or pair it with something of significance. For example, tickets to a football game, with their favorite player's jersey. Or a gift certificate for a cooking class, along with a new pan or kitchen items they've been eyeing.

    • Tickets for a concert, ballet, or opera

    • Gift certificate for an online cooking class - Sur La Table has a wide range of offerings. (could work for 6th anniversary iron - cast iron pans?)

    • Gift certificate for an online baking class. (could work for 10th anniversary aluminum - aluminum baking pans)

    • Tickets to a baseball, basketball or football game (the balls are leather covered - 3rd or 9th anniversary leather). We are known for sports in this town and there are so many to pick from: Colts, Pacers, Fever, Indians, Eleven, Fuel.

    • Gift certificate for a glass blowing class. I know this sounds random, but my husband and I did this in Indianapolis at Glass Arts Indiana: https://www.glassartsindiana.org/. (for 3rd anniversary glass)

    • Tickets to a local botanical garden (for 4th anniversary flowers). Newfields always has a lot to offer.

    • Gift certificate for an online or in person art class, like painting or pottery. Indy Art Center has lots of beginning classes. Uncommon Goods also has a lot of unique online classes you can book.

    • Money for or set up an appointment to get a tattoo together. Sure, not everyone's cup of tea, but a unique and fun way to celebrate your bond

  1. Pre-planned Date Night/Day

Take the pressure off and make a pre-planned date night/day your gift! You can give them a gift certificate detailing the date you have planned, or go ahead and use the date to celebrate your anniversary.

  • Bookstore date: grab coffee and browse the aisles together. You can each pick out a book for each other or find one to read together. (for 1st anniversary paper)

  • Make a fun dessert together. You could dip strawberries in chocolate (for 4th anniversary fruit)

  • Bowling alley date. Who cares if neither of you have bowled since you were a kid! (it's a stretch but could work for 5th or 6th anniversary wood; the lanes are wood!)

  • Mini golf date or golf date on the green or at a place like Topgolf. (could work for 6th anniversary iron since they call golf clubs "irons")

  • A trip to a local art museum. (could work for 8th anniversary bronze - bronze statues). We have Indiana Historical Society, Eiteljorg, Indiana State Museum, Newfields, and Indianapolis Children's Museum. (yes, they have special events for 12+!)

  • A date to find something for your house to share that goes along with your anniversary year (clock, blanket, barware, etc)

  • Conversation Starter Cards (for 1st anniversary paper) Not an actual date, but something to bring ON a date. My husband and I love having these. Even after 15 years of marriage, sometimes you get stuck talking about the kids and it's fun to have prompts to bring up other topics. https://amzn.to/3WSbYyr

  • We've also found that other people at the restaurant or bar are usually interested too! We brought a mini Guess in Three game to a bar once and the bartenders all wanted us to ask them the questions!

You can also get a journal in which you write answers to prompts. This is fun because you can look back on it later. https://amzn.to/474WixW

  1. Upgrades/Useful

There are always those items that we never seem to upgrade or replace. Buy your spouse whatever that might be, but make it a fancy version that they might not buy for themselves.

  • nice robe, luxury sheets, clothing (for 2nd anniversary cotton)

  • new boots, jacket, or shoes (for 3rd anniversary leather)

  • nice cutting board, serving utensils or serving bowls (for 5th or 6th anniversary wood)

  • upgraded luggage. Anyone else still using the 15 year old suitcase with the wonky wheels??

  • nice kitchen or cooking tools

  • new wallet or purse

  1. Consumables/Impermanent

Items that are consumable or impermanent will not add long-lasting clutter. These are things that you can eat, drink, or use up. Once they have been consumed, you don't need a place to store or display them.

  • A basket of their favorite foods or treats

  • Wine, beer, or spirits - combine with a mixology class or a tasting at a winery, brewery or distillery!

  • Fill a nice bowl with ingredients to make a fun themed meal together. Or create a themed dinner for your spouse! Recreate your first date meal or restaurant or make food from a favorite vacation location.

  • Flowers (for 4th anniversary flowers, but works for any time too!) I know this sounds cliche, but I love getting flowers from my husband! It doesn't add long lasting clutter because they only last for a week or so. You could also do a porch flower delivery service or subscription. There's several in the Indy area (The Dirt Bar, The Windowbox Gardener)

  1. Services

This would be something they wouldn't spend on themselves, but would love. Yes, make sure they'd actually like it first!

  • a gift certificate for home organizing!

  • one-time or recurring house cleaning

  • car detailing

  • family photo session

  • landscaping or mowing service

  • spa day

  • meal delivery service

  • a gift certificate for a personal stylist

My husband and I love giving creative gifts and gifts that we can share and make a memory with. As you celebrate another year together, remember that the most valuable gifts are those that deepen your bond and enrich your lives in a simple, clutter-free way. Here’s to many more memorable and meaningful anniversaries to come!
